Reducing food waste in international agri-trade is crucial for sustainable development. The global food system is responsible for 1/3 of greenhouse gas emissions and 1/4 of freshwater use. Up to 1/3 of all food produced is lost or wasted. This has significant economic, environmental, and social consequences. However, there are many opportunities to reduce food waste along the entire value chain, from production to consumption. This requires collaboration between all stakeholders, including farmers, processors, traders, retailers, consumers, and policymakers. By adopting best practices, innovative technologies, and circular business models, we can create a more resilient, efficient, and equitable food system that benefits everyone.
